Images and words from an amazing 2009.

These are freezing cold days everywhere in Italy, in the Dolomites, in towns… temperatures are very low, under the zero and today, the 21st, there’s the calendar too that tells everyone winter has come!

Christmas is “around the corner” and a great 2009 is going to end. It has been very special year, my first one as a guide in the Dolomites. I graduated last November, after 100 days in a year and a half of trainings and exams around the Alps with the Italian Mountain Guides course, and nobody could think and imagine which kind of year was waiting me at the door.

If somebody asked me what my first thought about the 2009 is, I would say the meters and meters of fresh snow fallen down last winter, that whelmed all the Dolomites. And we were there, ready with our fat skis to draw our lines everywhere was white and untracked.

Second thought is the huge number of people I met on my way. I’ve had unique experiences with everyone of them, friends or clients don’t make any difference. Such a joy when you reach the summit of a mountain, ski down a couloir, walk on a path or climb a steep face and share the emotions and feelings of this deep passion we have. Watch people smile after “bad” moments, when you had to help them to fight with their fears, limits. Yes, because you should be a psycologist too, not only a proper mountain guide.

I’d like to remember this amazing year with 12 pictures, one for each month. They won’t be necessary great images but they have a special meaning underneath, to myself and to the people i was with. I whish you a Merry Christmas and a happy 2010, full of snow, and full of unforgettable experiences and adventures around the world.

Questa volta ho scritto direttamente in inglese, ora traduco in italiano (sperando di non fare errori hahaha..).

Sono giornate di gelo in Italia, in Dolomiti, nelle città..le temperature sono ben al di sotto dello zero e oggi anche il calendario è qui a dirci che l’inverno è ufficialmente arrivato.
Natale è dietro l’angolo e il 2009 sta per finire. E’ stato un anno speciale per me, il primo da guida alpina nelle Dolomiti. Son diventato Aspirante lo scorso novembre, dopo un centinaio di giorni ( divisi in un anno e mezzo) tra formazione ed esami in giro per le Alpi con il corso guide italiano, e nessuno poteva minimamente immaginare che anno grandioso mi stava aspettando alla porta!
Se qualcuno mi chiedesse qual’è il primo pensiero del 2009..non potrei che rispondere i metri e metri di neve caduti lo scorso inverno, che hanno letteralmente sommerso le Dolomiti, ogni bosco, vallone, buco nascosto…E noi eravamo li, pronti con i nostri scii a tracciare linee ovunque fosse bianco e puro. A volte un vero lavoraccio, perché al mattino le nostre tracce erano già coperte! Dura la vita voi direte… :)
Il secondo importantissimo pensiero va alle persone. Ho vissuto esperienze uniche con ognuno di loro. Amici, conoscenti, clienti non fa nessuna differenza.Che emozioni quando abbiamo raggiunto la vetta di una montagna, oppure sciando lungo i ripidi canali, passeggiando lungo i sentieri o arrampicando, e condividere le emozioni di questa profonda passione che ci accomuna. Vedere un ritrovato sorriso nelle persone dopo brutti momenti, quando devi aiutarli a superare le loro paure, i loro limiti.
Vorrei ricordare quest’anno incredibile con 12 immagini, una per ogni mese. Ognuna con un significato particolare per noi che eravamo lì in quel momento.
Auguro a tutti un felice Natale e un 2010 pieno di neve per prima cosa, e ricco di esperienze e avventure indimenticabili in giro per il mondo.
