It’s december already and the snow situation in the Dolomites reminds me a lot last year, only the high peaks painted in white have given a sort of winter look so far. The foehn wind from last week blew strongly in Marmolada, the only spot where it’s been possible to go ski touring, and the snowpack is not enjoyable anymore. Yesterday we went to check the conditions of the glaciers in Pitztal, we took the lift to get higher and we skinned up to the top of Wildspitze, the highest peak in Tirol and the second in Austria, and we found pretty decent conditions, the crevasses on the glacier are almost well covered, you need to be careful anyway. On the way down we followed the same itinerary and we got back to the car following the pistes and taking the train at last. The GPS track is recorded on my Movescount account (click here)
Let’s hope to get some snow in the South Eastern Alps soon, in the meantime we enjoy these beautiful sunny days.
